A rather slender, cottony annual with erect, branched stems 23-75 cm high.
Ecology UK: (distribution according to flora) It is found in arable land and waste places throughout the British Isles, but less frequently than formerly.

Fleurs : involucre ovoïde à folioles entourées d'une marge fortement décurrente et de cils courts ordinairement argentés ; akènes à ombilic barbu surmontés d'une aigrette rousse égalant à peu près leur longueur ; fleurs bleues, les extérieures rayonnantes.
Floraison France : Mai-juillet
Flowers: Heads 30-50 mm diam., on long stalks; involucral bracts greenish, with pointed apex and a margin of acuminate teeth, cottony; florets 10 mm long, blue; outer barren with broad, ovate lobes and forming a ray; inner fertile and much smaller.
Flowering UK: Mid July-early Sept.
